Judges at Eat Out Awards praised its meat dishes as well as its vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus.
Celebrations have been officially extended at one Wirral restaurant after it won a major national award just a week after its second anniversary party.
Blackberry Grove was named the UK’s Best Independent Operator at last night’s Eat Out Awards.
It came as a validation for owner Joanna Jones’ hard work after opening the New Brighton venue with funding from her own credit cards.
In the time since the doors opened in 2015, Blackberry Grove has built an impressive reputation for its vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes but that wasn’t all that impressed the judges.
Joanna told the ECHO: “I thought it was good that we had got our name in the hat against all these London restaurants, at least people would see our name on the screen at the event and be talking about it.
“I was gobsmacked when they read our name out.
“Later on, one of the judges came over to speak to me.
“To get involved I had to forward a presentation and they said how impressed they were that there was a strong female lead at the restaurant and that although we do a lot of meat dishes there’s all the options we have for vegetarian , vegan and gluten-free dishes too.”
The recognition comes at a crucial time for Blackberry Grove as Joanna plans to open a second restaurant in Liverpool city centre.
She said: “The plan is to launch a Kickstarter to get us open in Liverpool.
“It’s worked for other restaurants and even smaller cafe venues so I’m going to give it a go.
“The plan is to have the appeal up and running in the next few days.”
Anyone interested in helping with the Kickstarter appeal should check Blackberry Grove’s Facebook and Twitter pages for further updates.
